Butterfly Chair History

The B.K.F. Chair—also known as the Hardoy Chair, Butterfly Chair, Safari Chair, Sling Chair, or Wing Chair—was designed in Buenos Aires and its name credits its three designers. The first two B.F.K. chairs to come to the United States went to Fallingwater, Edgar Kaufmann Jr.’s home in Pennsylvania (designed by family friend Frank Lloyd Wright), and to MoMA. Edgar Kaufmann accurately predicted that the lightweight and inexpensive lounge chair would become hugely popular in the U.S., particularly on the West Coast.
Artek-Pascoe produced the chair from 1941 to 1948, sending royalties back to Argentina. Knoll Associates acquired U.S. production rights in the late 1940s and unsuccessfully pursued legal action against unauthorized copies, which continue to be produced to this day.

Beach Accessible Chaise

Joshua got his chance to try our “beach accessible chaise” in the water. We spent a lot of time developing this chaise to offer disabled people a comfortable, easily used chaise for lounging, crossing sand and swimming off. We have them for sale both commercially and residentially and our veteran discount is doubled for these particular chaises as we make them in house. There are also discount programs for people requiring the chaise that are disabled.

The Theatre Project

A huge effort went into the study of sound in theaters. We met with sound experts from Bose who were extremely helpful as well as the acoustical fabric and wall covering suppliers to make sure the theater would sound as impressive as it looks! From 12 different lutron controlled lighting modes to a remote timed fog injection system we did some homework to produce the nicest theater we’ve seen. Features include, 1000’s of feet of mahogany trim, 6’ diameter copper dome with crystal center light, plastic molded frosted ceiling with 2000 hand installed star lights, retractable adjusting screens, separately climate controlled equipment room, 100’s of feet of custom steel and brass metal work, base speakers in every seat in addition to the surrounds, custom railings with brass inlays, 10’s of gallons of lacquer and commercial movie theater fabrics, 100’s of feet of various hidden acoustic foams and sound controls. A fun project that came out sensational. Movie mode in the theater is nothing short of an unforgettable experience…now onto the bar and wine cellar!

“Calcutta 2” The new group is an exact replica but scaled slightly
larger. The new white wicker groups were comfortable and the offering of
custom sized welting is fresh for the category. We’ll have it on our showroom
for the summer!! Thanks for the hospitality while we’re in Chicago.
